MINES: Civilians affected once again. 1 dead and 3 injured near Aguelhok

Bamako, 8 September 2014 - A civilian vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) near Aguelhok in the region of Kidal on Saturday morning.

According to a preliminary toll, one person was killed by the explosion and several others were injured, three of them seriously.

MINUSMA strongly condemns this terrorist act which, once again, has blindly targeted innocent civilians.

Through the United Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS), MINUSMA continues to identify, clear and mark mined priority areas in Mali to provide maximum protection for civilians against such barbaric attacks.

The perpetrators of these criminal acts have claimed 171 civilian victims in Mali since January 2013, 38 of whom lost their lives.
