Attack on MINUSMA Camp in Kidal

The MINUSMA camp in Kidal was targeted by mortar fire at around 4:45 a.m. today. In total, six to eight mortar shells were fired. The attack, which lasted about 20 minutes, did not cause any casualties or material damage.

At around 6:30 a.m., a civilian vehicle struck an improvised explosive device or mine 1 km north of the MINUSMA camp. Two civilians were injured.

MINUSMA peacekeepers responded to the attack and reinforced the camp’s security. The MINUSMA Force will conduct patrols to locate the site from which the attack was carried out and to ensure the security of the civilian population.

The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of MINUSMA, Mr. Mongi Hamdi, strongly condemns these criminal and cowardly acts. He reiterates MINUSMA’s strong determination to continue to fulfil its responsibilities in support of Mali and its people in the search for a lasting peace.
