SRSG Albert Koenders congratulates Mali for the second round of the parliamentary elections

Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Chief of MINUSMA, Albert Koenders, congratulates the Government and the people of Mali for the proper conduct of the second round of parliamentary elections, in which no major incident occurred.

These elections were crucial to re-establish constitutional order, and in the meantime to follow the path of national reconciliation. This success should be the milestone for the restoration of peace and security in the whole country”, he said.

The day after the bombing in Kidal, the SRSG recalls the importance of cooperation among all actors from the political scene, civil society and international and regional community to replace Mali in the concert of nations, especially after the ordeal the country and people went through.

MINUSMA supported logistically the second round of the parliamentary elections, as it did for the first round and the presidential ones, in carrying by planes around 30 tons of electoral material and more than 220 people across the country. Personnel included members of the Commission électorale nationale indépendante (CENI), the Constitutional Court and national and international observers.
