The SRSG Meets Mr. Modibo Keïta, Prime Minister of Mali
Within the framework of his regular consultations with the Government, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of MINUSMA, Mr. Mongi Hamdi, met with Mr. Modibo Keïta, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Mali, at the “Primature” today.
During this meeting, they discussed the latest developments and the security situation in the north of the country.
Following his meeting with the Prime Minister, the SRSG said that “this abrupt deterioration of the security situation, at a time when Mali and the international community are putting in place the Peace and Reconciliation Agreement, could eventually endanger the implementation of the Agreement as well as the efforts were are undertaking. The President has taken a decision and has asked the Plateforme to leave Anéfis, and MINUSMA will facilitate the implementation of this decision. We need to calm things down. We all agree to work together with the Government, so that the parties return to the logic of peace and the Peace Agreement, which was signed by everybody.”
MINUSMA and the international community continue their engagement alongside the Government of Mali and the parties involved in the implementation of the Peace Agreement.
