The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by the death of one Chadian peacekeeper following an attack on a military vehicle of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), which took place in the vicinity of Aguelhok, Kidal Region, earlier today.

Bamako, 8 September 2014 - A civilian vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) near Aguelhok in the region of Kidal on Saturday morning.
According to a preliminary toll, one person was killed by the explosion and several others were injured, three of them seriously.
The SRSG accompanied the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania and current chairman of the African Union, H.E.M Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz, during his visit to Kidal. Transportation was provided by MINUSMA.
